***I received an updated version of this item from RAVpower for free recently. It is now rated at 3000mAh and I definitely feel that the new one holds more charge. It also recharges much faster and the flashlight is brighter. The only change I didn't like was the button for the flashlight. It's not a simple on/off anymore. Each button press now goes from solid bright, solid light, and then strobe. It could take up to three button presses for the flashlight to actually turn off.Overall, this is a solid improvement. Price also didn't go up. 5 stars*****I just tried a test run and it performed ok. I used it to charge an LG Nexus 4 which has a 2100 mAh battery inside. The phone was mostly in sleep/idle when being charged. The following is not in any way a professional or scientific test, but it will give you a general idea of the charger's performance. For the first run, this unit charged the phone up +68% in 3 hours which is equivalent to around 1430 mAh (23% charge per hour).Given that the RAVPower charger is rated at 2600 mAh, the test resulted in a 55% charging efficiency. The flashlight function is not very bright. It's comparable to one of those tiny button keychain LEDs. It may come in handy when you don't have any other light source. The LED flash on my phone is at least 5x brighter with a wider pattern.I purchased this on sale and I don't regret it. I'll be happy if it can charge my phone from near dead to 3/4 full battery. The unit itself is very pocketable and it comes with a handy, short micro usb cable for charging.*New batteries need a certain number of recharges to get optimal performance and I will update the review with more tests.Read more ›

Out of all the battery packs I have reviewed, this one made it to the top of the list in terms of quality, functionality, and style.

This little power bank is only 4 1/2" long and less than 1" in diameter but it will completely charge a cell phone with some power left over. It comes with a 12" USB to micro USB cable that charges the power bank itself as well as transfers electricity to devices that are compatible with micro USB.There is a button on the end that activates the LEDs that show how charged it is in 25% increments and the same button turns on the flashlight when held down for a few seconds.Charging using a USB wall charger adapter is about twice as fast as charging through a USB port but when travelling it would still recharge overnight from a USB port on a computer or on the back of the hotel television so there would be no need to carry an adapter. That flashlight is much better than would be expected: it's a very white LED that gives an intense concentrated area of illumination that is sufficient even for detailed tasks. It's so bright that if you put your finger over the end, it will make your entire fingertip glow orange--lots of fun for the kiddies! The combination of charger and flashlight is ideal to keep in the purse or glove compartment and even for hikers who need to be able to recharge a telephone, GPS, or MP3 player while having it serve double-duty as a flashlight. I left the flashlight on continuously and it lasted well over 4 days/100 hours although it did get noticeably dimmer near the end.A sample was provided for unbiased review.

Bought this item for myself and ended up buying more for friends! There is a red LED indicator while the power pack is charging that will turn blue when done. I have a Samsung GS4 (2600 mah) and this stick was enough (3000 mah) to charge my phone from nearly dead back to full charge. The flashlight portion is very bright and is an added bonus! Watch the price however- I bought mine in gold for $19.99 and then 2 days later they dropped to $17.99.

To me this is a flashlight with a built-in battery pack so you can have light when you need but also have power when you need it as well. I’ve found it to be very handy and useful and I know it will be getting a lot of use by me, at least the flashlight part will anyway. The RAVPower Luster RP-PB08 3000mAh battery is one of those things that I find extremely useful and valuable for most any situation.I can see it being especially good in an emergency as it’s a very bright light but it’s also a battery to keep your phone charged so you’re covered with light and power. The Luster can be a great just everyday flashlight or as a battery to take with you for the day just in case you need some extra talk time.So is it a flashlight or is it an external battery? Either or, it doesn't mater I guess as it’s both and that’s a good thing. The light has three levels and can last for along time on a single charge, up to 120 hours. The light is extremely bright, it can easily light up a room and cast light very far, a good 20-30 feet I estimate.Charge time of the Luster is about 4 hours or slightly more, it depends on the remaining battery capacity, and that’s pretty good. The Luster has standard USB port on it and comes with a microUSB cable for charging it and your devices. The standard USB port means now special cables or tips are needed, as long as you have the cable that came with your device you can charge it with the Luster. The clip included isn’t the best, but it works.I’d like to have seen a charge indicator at least but sadly there isn’t one on the Luster.Read more ›
